FAQs

You Asked, We Answered!

Q: What are the different types of slips?

A: BoatSlips fall into two buckets, dry slips and wet slips. Dry slips are racks on dry land, typically inside buildings, where your boat is stored safely out of the water and elements. Wet slips are slips in the water and come in a variety of types including slips with floating docks, fixed docks, boat lifts and, occasionally, shade structures to protect from the sun.

Q: What are floating docks vs. fixed docks?

A: Floating docks rise and fall, along with your
boat, as the tide changes. They make it easy to secure and board your boat. Fixed docks do not move with the tide.

Q: What is a boat lift?

A: A boat lift is a cradle that your boat rests on that is hoisted into the air above the surface of the water. A boat lift can be installed in some wet slips, but not all, so it is important to consult with an expert.

Q: What is the benefit of a dry slip?

A: Storing your boat in a dry slip shields it from the harsh environmental elements, such as sun and storms. Also, when you are ready to get out on the water, a courteous and professional staff uses a massive forklift to move your boat from the slip to the water, having it ready for you to jump aboard and depart. Upon return, the staff will flush your motors, rinse the hull and return the boat to your slip.

Additionally, at some marinas your boat can also be fueled while it is on the forklift, adding extra convenience.

Q: What is a submerged land lease?

A: Many marinas in Florida are constructed over land leased from the state. While common, it is important to work with an expert who understands the implications of owning or leasing a slip subject to a submerged land lease.
